About Julia

Julia Zalkovic was born in Edmonton Alberta, and has been teaching violin since 2015. She studied with Violaine Melançon at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montreal where she began her Bachelor in Violin Performance music studies in 2019. She has competed in numerous music competitions in Edmonton and Sherwood Park on both the violin and piano, receiving scholarships as well as competing in Provincials. Julia has also performed in orchestras, being part of the EYO (Edmonton Youth Orchestra) in 2012, later playing as part of the University of Alberta’s USO (University Symphony Orchestra) in 2018, and the McGill Symphony Orchestra (MGSO) from 2019-2023. While playing as a member of the USO, Julia majored in Psychology at the University of Alberta. Julia also has experience with solo performances, playing the entire Mozart D Major Concerto No. 4 as a soloist accompanied by an orchestra in 2018, as well as performing a solo/sonata recital with works from Kaija Saariaho, Brahms, and Beethoven in 2023.

Julia has experience teaching ensembles and chamber groups, as well as many years of private one-on-one teaching. Julia has experience teaching both the Suzuki Method, as well as the Yamaha method for young musicians. Julia has prepared students for both recitals and performances, as well as music exams (Royal Conservatory of Music, for example) and competitions/festivals. Julia loves teaching and watching her students grow; she believes that music is a language we can all understand, and teaching music is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling for her.
